Victory is mine!

Yes my friends I have won NaNoWriMo with 50,276 words.  I think my novel is somewhere between half and two-thirds done.

I will continue working on the draft every day, Monday through Friday but at a more sedate pace.  I may not have it finished by the end of 2011, but it will be well on its way to being a complete draft.

Now it's time to get back to things I've been missing.  Exercise.  Movies.  My local SCA group.  Contact with human beings who do not live or work at my house.  Also we have a puppy so the next few days will be interesting as he adjusts to the new environment.

Hope you all have had a wonderful November.  I shall be back again next month.

Break's over. Get back to work.

Hello readers,

I am back to writing after having taken that day off.  I'm slowly gaining back the ground I lost.  I started yesterday a little over 3,000 words behind and by the time I stopped writing I was 1,900 words behind.  I'm hoping to get caught up either today or tomorrow.

Slow going write now as my brain is exhausted and wants to shut down.  At the moment I wouldn't say no to a long winter's nap.  Still the wordcount looms, like an anvil placed above my head.  No idea where that similie came from but I'm so not editing this post.

Thanksgiving at my house will be largely the responsibility of the men in the family.  I will make my famous mashed potatoes but other than that I will be writing.  Should be an interesting experience.

To all of my American friends I wish a happy Thanksgiving Day, one during which you truly find the grace to give thanks for your blessings, however small.  To my Canadian friends, happy Thanksgiving last month (you lucky people, no holiday to interfere with NaNo up there)  To everyone else:  good wishes for a peaceful and plentiful Thursday.

See you all next week.  Keep writing.

A NaNoWriMo Break

Sometimes life throws you curve balls.  And sometimes it throws you molotov cocktails.  I am going through one of those times now.  Not surprisingly, I've fallen behind in my wordcount.  Still, I'm taking a much-needed day off.

I'm going to chill out today, rest, maybe watch a movie.  Play with my little girl.  The world can wait.

How it's going.

As of this moment my wordcount is 13, 129.  I still have a few hundred to go to meet the daily wordcount goal.  My story is coming along nicely, but I'm not far into territory I haven't already covered in the original first draft.  I expect the real test will come next week when I go completely new.

My family has not been complaining too much, which I take to mean I'm doing a much better job balancing NaNo with my domestic responsibilities.  Tonight I fear a migraine may be on its way and I'd like nothing more than to sink into a very warm bath or get a massage.  Neither is likely to happen, but I can dream.

This year marks my third year hosting the NaN-orphans Guild for Mentorless Newbies.  It is a very rewarding experience to have new NaNo-ers thank you for helping them get through the first intimidating days.  I've added helpful hints this year and I hope I don't run out of ideas for them before the end of at least week three.

I'm afraid that's all for today.  Time to make food to feed the people in my house, because they don't know how to feed themselv

The first day of National Novel Writing Month

11/1/2011

It's the very first day of NaNoWriMo 2011 and I have written a measly 128 words.  Feel like I'm coming down with a cold.  The antihistamines that work the best make me drowsy.  Should make for some interesting writing.

This NaNo I am writing The DeFord Chronicles, Part II which is the second book in the DeFord Chronicles trilogy.  The first book was The DeFord Chronicles, Part I.  Don't you just love my highly creative titles for this series?

I've been meaning to write The DeFord Chronicles, Part II for five or six years.  I never made it past chapter four.  So I'm putting aside the work I've done and starting over.  I may reincorporate the original four chapters in the editing phase, but I needed a fresh start.  NaNoWriMo has been very helpful to me for movitation purposes so it was the natural choice for this particular novel.  Plus I can now tell people who ask when I'm writing it that the answer is "Now."

Don't know if I'll be posting on schedule this month, but I will keep you all updated on my wordcount and plot frustrations.  Good luck to all my NaNo friends.
