Six Sentence Sundays 6/24/2012

Thank you to those who read and comment.  Your support is always appreciated.  This week we're going back to Chapter 8 and Ellen's lunch with Rita.

After listening to Ellen ordering a very light lunch Rita has placed her own rather impressive, calorie-laden order.  She sees that Ellen is staring and says:

“My motto is everything in moderation—emphasis on the everything.”
“I envy you.  If I still ate like that I’d weigh even more.”
“Is that what that rabbit food order is about?”
“Since when do rabbits eat chicken?”
“They would if somebody cooked it for them.

Have I mentioned how much fun it was writing Rita?  Thank you for stopping by and have a great time checking out all the talented writers who participate in Six Sentence Sunday.

Tagged Again by the Lucky 7

First I'd like to thank Angela Quarles and Wendi Sotis for tagging me.  They are wonderful writers and wonderful friends.

Next I must state the rules...

Go to page 7 or 77 in your current manuscript
Go to line 7
Post the next 7 lines, or sentences, as they are – no cheating -- on your blog, website, or Facebook profile/page
Tag 7 other authors to do the same (and it's a good idea to let them know you've tagged them; it's less fun otherwise).

Since Bridging The Gaps isn't out yet, and I haven't worked on anything else in many moons, I'm giving you 7 lines from page 7.  The scene: 15 year old Melanie is studying with her best friend Rachel when Rachel asks how she feels about her parents getting divorced.  Melanie denies that a divorce is in the works and Rachel informs her that the whole town knows the Pritchards are splitting up, and everyone knows her Dad's got a girlfriend.  Melanie dismisses the whole thing.

          “It’ll pass.  It’s just a mid-life crisis.”
Rachel Bryant had been Melanie’s best friend since first grade.  There wasn’t anything they didn’t share with each other—until now.  Rachel reached her hand out to cover Melanie’s.  “It’s okay, Lanie.  You can tell me the truth.”
Annoyed, Melanie shook off her hand.  “I am.  There’s nothing to worry about.  He’ll come back.”

Poor kid.  She goes through a lot in this book.  Anyhow...

I hereby tag, for the Lucky 7 meme:

Profound Apologies

To my lovely readers and the wonderful people who run and participate in Six Sentence Sunday, I wish to apologize.
I have in the past signed up and posted, and I have posted after forgetting to sign up. Today marks the first time I have signed up but forgotten to post.

What can I say?  In summer the days all blend together and Sunday looks a lot like Wednesday.   The last week has been particularly hectic as our youngest son (the 3rd of our 4 children) has not taken well to school being over.  It was the first full week of summer vacation and it was a rough one.

We're trying to find a day program for him, in addition to respite care once a week.  No luck so far.  I may have to forgo Six Sunday for the summer and choose respite day to share a bit of my work.  Haven't made a decision but I'll be doing some definite thinking about it.

Today has been a day of running interference as everyone seems to be getting on each other's nerves.  I'm hoping the afternoon will be just too hot for squabbling, and that a little ice cream will soothe the savage beasts.

Wish me luck, and have a great Sunday.

Kate

Six Sentence Sundays 6/3/2012

Here it is Six Sentence Sunday again.  And here I am posting six sentences.   Thank you to all who read and/or commented last week.

Moving on to Chapter 4, Doug and Chloe have just made an important announcement.

"The silence was palpable and oppressive.  Even DJ was at a loss for words.  Melanie was on the verge of tears.  Matt looked up from his contemplation of the steak to stare at his father.  Stephanie noticed a distinct rhythm to her increased heart rate—a steady staccato that could best be described as eerily similar to the theme from Jaws. She knew she should say something and searched for an appropriate response."

That's all for me this week.  Please visit the dozens of talented authors who participate in Six Sentence Sundays.  And thank you for stopping by.

The Last Day of School

6/1/2012

It's the last day of the school year.  To the kids that makes this the first day of summer.  To the adults in the house it's more like the end of an order and sanity--what order and sanity we have, that is.  I'm afraid my blog posts may not be as regular for the next three months.

I feel I should say something wise, or deep...   Nope.  Drawing a complete blank on that line of thinking.  Instead I'll just say that I'm working on a new short piece about life as bookworm, looking forward to my new novel releasing as an eBook this summer, and planning more things to add to this website for your reading pleasure.

Also thinking about book trailers and wondering if anyone of my acquaintance would be interested in cobbling one together in exchange for a free copy of Bridging The Gaps.  Probably not.

I apologize for the non-interestingness of this post but I swear my brain is asleep today and I just cannot get it to wake up properly.  Too bad I don't like coffee.  Perhaps I should try chocolate instead.

Going to be a long summer and now I must go and feed people.

Until next time...
Kate
