Six Sentence Sundays 7/29/2012

Hello and thank you to my readers, and those of you who take the time to comment.  It's been a long week with the release of "Bridging The Gaps" on eBook.  Plenty of excitement.  Speaking of which, here's some excitement from the novel...

We're joining Ellen and Henry in chapter twenty.  They've been watching a romantic movie together and as one thing leads to another, Ellen pulls back.  Henry senses her confusion and tries to ease her mind, while making sure she knows how he feels.

"...You’re very special to me, and I’m not going anywhere. When you’re ready, I’ll be here.” He leaned over and kissed her so thoroughly she couldn’t have given her name if asked.  He leaned his forehead against hers for the space of a few seconds. “Goodnight, Ellie May.”
It wasn’t until she heard his car pull out of the driveway that her pulse began to slow down to a normal level.

Oh, Ellen.  There is such a thing as being too cautious.  But don't worry, I promise she'll get over it.  Which reminds me to remind you to get on over to the Six Sentence Sunday site and find yourself some more snippets of awesome to read.

[cue confetti and balloons]

The day has finally arrived and I'm excited to have "Bridging The Gaps" available to eReaders everywhere.  For three days you can get it at a special sale price of $0.99 in all eBook formats.  Treat yourself to a copy.  Heck, buy one for a friend.

And since I'm so very helpful, I'm even giving you direct links so you don't have to deal with odd search results (I mean you, Amazon!).  Each link leads directly to the retailer's page for "Bridging The Gaps."

Smashwords is my favorite site for eBooks because they have so many formats.  Get one for your Kindle, Nook, iPad, Kobo, phone, etc.  So click on the name to buy from them.  Or you can always go to...

Barnes & Noble for all your Nook needs.  Don't have a Nook?  That's ok, just download their free Nook app.

Then of course, for all you Kindle users, get your copy of Bridging The Gaps at Amazon.  Amazon also has a free downloadable Kindle app.

For those who prefer to read print books, don't despair.  The paperback will release in October.

Feel free to spread the word about my release.  I'm also looking for hosts for my mini-blogtour, if anyone is interested.  I'll give away a free eBook at each blog that hosts me.

Off to celebrate now.

Dear readers and commenters, I thought I'd add an image of my book cover because I like blog posts that have images with them.  It does rather limit the space for text beside it though.

In light of the recent tragedy in Aurora, CO I am torn between posting a funny six (because I think everyone could use a laugh right now) and a more somber six, (because pain and loss are universal and even in books full of humor there is sorrow).

My decision today is to honor the victims and their families through sharing the sufferings of one of my characters.  I'm also posting more than six sentences.  I know that is against the rules and it will mean my link will be deactivated.  That's ok.

Ellen's friend Jessie has lost her three-year-old granddaughter to a car accident.  Her daughter Anna, the girl's mother, was badly injured and hasn't regained conciousness.  Anna's husband is in the Army, serving in Afghanistan.  Jessie's husband a pastor and she is a deeply religious woman, but she always speaks her mind, even with the Almighty.

“Dear God, I don’t see why this was necessary.  Did you need her back so desperately? A week before Thanksgiving.  Your timing stinks!  I know you have a plan, but damned if I understand it.  You know this brings back little Jimmy.  I live with that pain every day of my life. It’s never gone away.  Now Anna has to live with it too.  She was only three years old.  Was her work done?  Are you short a few angels?  She’d make a good one.  Always brought joy to our lives.”  She wiped tears away.  “Well. Thank you for letting us have her for even this short time.  And please bring Bobby home safe.  His wife and his sons need him.  Oh, and don’t you pull another stunt like this, Lord.  Not while I’m still living.  There’s only so much a woman can take.”

Thank you for visiting.  Please also visit the myriad talented authors who posted Six Sentences this week.  God Bless you.

Sunshine

Thanks to J.M Blackman for nominating me for the Sunshine Award.  It's an honor to be included in her list of people who bring sunshine to the world.  I'd include her in mine, but she's already done this so...

Here's how this works.
Sunshine Award requirements:

  • include the Logo and a link to who nominated you

  • write 10 things about yourself

  • nominate and link to 10 more awesome people for the award

Without further ado I give you: 10 Things About Me.

1. You know those Captcha codes that some websites and blogs have?  Well I may be be the only one who does this, but I actually pronounce the pseudo-words on them.  I have no idea why.  Some are rather interesting. I've even attempted to classify them based on which language they sound like.  I should really get out more.

2. I mention this almost every time one of these comes up but...I have four children; three boys and one girl.  All three of my boys have Autism Spectrum Disorders, at different levels of severity.  Life can get very difficult, especially in the summer.  Our youngest boy seems to be reacting to the heat by not sleeping.  He was literally up all night last night.  I wish I had that kind of energy.

3. My favorite food is pizza.  It's very versatile and has all of the original four food groups.  I even like it cold the next day, if it's high quality pizza.

4. I'm a Jane Austen fan.  Not rabid about it, but I do love her work.  I've watched every film adaptation I can get my hands on and I run (or rather don't run because I'm short on time) a Pride & Prejudice fan site.  It's one of my dreams to get that site back up and running again.  Right now it's just taking up space online.

5. My idea of material success is having central air conditioning.

6. I've never been on an airplane.

7. I am descended from Richard Warren, who came over from England on the Mayflower.  Which, in a roundabout way, leads me to my next fact.

8. Kate Warren is not my real name.  My real name is being used by someone who writes cookbooks.  I chose the Warren because of Fact 7 and Kate because it's a nickname I've had since childhood.  I also answer to "Hey, you!"

9.  I was homeschooled and finished high school at the age of 14.  Naturally when I started college I did not go on campus.

10. I don't like coffee.  I like the smell of it, but the taste is not for me.  Don't really care for tea either.  More for everyone else, I guess.  :)

Now, to nominate more people.  Well first off I'm breaking the rules here because I'm only going to nominate five, not ten.  It's hot and I don't feel so great.  Plus a lot of the people I'd nominate have done this recently or don't usually participate in these.

So my 5 nominations are:

Jes Langan.  I always nominate her.  She has yet to actually do one of these but she's a brilliant writer, a good friend, hilariously funny and also my sister.  Jes, if you don't like the fact that I've revealed our familial connection, you'll just have to get on your blog and say so. ;)

Donna Cummings.  Hilarious and extremely talented.  Also a real sweetheart from what I can tell.

Michael Cargill.  I know Michael from Facebook and he's a funny guy.  A writer of strange and wonderful things.  I'm curious to see what he'll do with this.

Angela Quarles.  A great friend, fellow Browncoat, and rising star of the romance writing world. She's been a constant support to me since we met many moons ago and bonded over our love of Jane Austen.  She's rather busy at the moment so she might not get around to this, but if she does it will be a great post.

Teresa Cypher.  Yet another talented writer (are you seeing a pattern here?) who has been very supportive of my efforts.

Hello Sixers!  It's Sunday again and you know what that means...

Today we find ourselves in Chapter 9 of "Bridging The Gaps."  It's a family dinner at the Pritchard house, minus Stephanie.  While trying to get her three younger children to talk Ellen mentions that it's time for Matt's next dental exam.  He balks at going to see the dentist he's had for more than a decade.

“Is it really so bad, Matthew?”
“Mom, I’m fifteen years old,” He put down his fork to gesture with his right hand.  “I don’t want to go to a dentist where I have to be this high to sit in the ‘big boy chair’.”
Lanie started laughing, earning a glare from Matt.
“All right. I’ll find another dentist for you."

Where oh where could Ellen find a new dentist for Matt?  Any suggestions, readers?

Thank you all for reading and to those of you who comment, thank you for taking that time as well.  Check out more awesome writers by visiting Six Sentence Sunday.

How did it get to be Six Sentence Sunday again?  Well I'm happy to say that at least in my neck of the woods the heat wave has abated.  It's still summer, so it's still warmer than I'd like, but compared to before it feels almost cool.

A big fuzzy thank you (you like fuzzy thank yous, right?) to all who read and comment.  I love reading your thoughts each week.  So, let's get to it, shall we?  This week's six comes from the same scene as last week's.

Henry is having dinner with his sister Rita, and her husband Charlie.  Rita is being rather blatant about mentioning Ellen every so often.  We join the three as Rita has said she can't go to see the progress on Henry's new clinic the next day because she has something planned already.  Charlie asks what plans she made.

Out of consideration [Rita] tactfully declined to mention that she told him everything at least twice and he just forgot anything that wasn’t crucial to his game plan.  “A card game at Ellie Pritchard’s.”
Henry checked his watch.  Ten minutes exactly since the last mention.  The government could use someone like his sister.  They’d never miss another budget deadline.

Well that's all I have for this week.  Be sure to visit the dozens of talented authors who participate in this lovely gathering we call Six Sentence Sunday.

Six Sentence Sundays 7/1/2012

Another Sunday, another six.  Another hot day in this Wisconsin summer.  I feel like I should write about winter, as if that would somehow help.  Oh for central air!  But anyway...

I'd like to thank all of those who read and/or comment on my Six Sentence Sunday posts, but sadly I only know you online so there will be no flowers or chocolates.  Still, I appreciate you!

This week we're in Chapter 12.  Handsome Dr. Henry is having dinner with his sister and brother-in-law.  Rita has put phase one of her plan into action, but Henry is wise to her scheming.

"Henry forked more of the pot roast into his mouth and chewed philosophically.  If he could make it through this dinner he’d be off the hook for a month or so before Rita started nagging him again.  Not that he didn’t love his sister, but she could be downright exasperating.  She never let go of an idea either.  She was due to mention Ellen Pritchard again soon. Rita thought she was so clever, smoothly inserting her friend’s name into the conversation repeatedly."

Ah, Rita.  No one's ever accused her of subtlety.  That's my six for the week.  By sure to visit the lovely and talented authors who make Six Sentence Sundays the joyous occasions they are!
