Sunshine Award

I have been given the Sunshine Award by the lovely and talented Lorraine Paton, whose new book Devin's Second Chance releases this June!

Thank you, Lorraine!

Here are the rules for the Sunshine Award:
  1. Thank the person who gave you the award in your blog post.
  2. Answer the questions below.
  3. Pass the award to a bunch of deserving and inspiring bloggers, inform them and link to their blogs (The rules actually say 10-12 people, but I'm not going to choose that many this time. Why? Because I'm a rebel, that's why.)
So, here are the questions:

Favorite Color: Blue! Never met a shade I didn't like but my favorite is that deep, bright classic blue.

Favorite Animal: Well that would be a dog, or a horse, or a pig.  Hard to choose really.

Favorite Number:  Um...8?

Favorite Non-Alcoholic Drink: Pepsi.

Facebook or Twitter: Both.  Facebook is easier for me.  Twitter goes so fast it's hard to keep up, especially because I can't use my phone for it.

Your Passion: Which one?  I love writing, music, design, history, etc.

Giving or Getting Presents: Yes. I love giving presents, but I like getting them too, so I could really go either way on this one.

Favorite Flower: Roses. But lilacs are a close second and the wood violet is dear to me as well.  Come to think of it, I have a real fondness of apple blossoms and pansies too. Did I mention that I have an indecisive streak? But roses are my favorite.

Now to name those whom I wish to honor with an award.  The following people have been chosen because they A) have blogs, B) are likely to post, C) have not been chosen by Lorraine, and most importantly D) they have brought some sunshine into my life.  Please note, there is another category here: E) because I will continue to tag my sister until she starts posting again.  You are brilliant and the world will know it because I said so!

Super Sweet Blogging Award

The lovely and talented, and also super sweet, J.M. Blackman has tagged me for the Super Sweet Blogging Award.

The process is quite simple.  Link back to the person who recommended you for the award, answer some questions about your favorite sweets, and tag a baker's dozen of other sweet bloggers.  Here are my answers to the decreed questions.

1. Cookies or Cake?   This is a hard one for me, but I'm going to have to go with cake.

2. Chocolate or Vanilla?  Usually chocolate.  Though I almost had a chocolate overload yesterday--a thing I did not think was possible before trying Culvers' Chocolate Oreo Volcano frozen custard.  The COV nearly had me convinced that there is indeed such a thing as too much chocolate.  Scary.  I shall avoid that flavor in the future.

3. Favorite sweet treat?  Um...other than chocolate in all its glorious forms?  Probably pie because there are so many variations.  And most are fruit-based, and fruit is good for me. :o)

4. When do you crave sweet things the most?  There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to it.  It really varies.  Except for a certain cyclical chocolate craving.  Regardless of what scientific experts say, that craving does exist, and it is triggered by hormones.

5. If you had a sweet nickname, what would it be?  Heck if I know!  I'm not very tall so maybe shortcake?  If anyone has any ideas of a good sweet nickname for me, please let me know.

Questions answered.  Now it is time to nominate a baker's dozen (13, for those who don't know) of super sweet bloggers:

Teresa Cypher
Donna Cummings
Sara Barnard
Lauren Royal
Sarah Ballance
Emma Lai
Sandra Sookoo
Charmaine Gordon
Ann Swann
Carrie Crain
Joanne Stewart
Carrie-Anne Brownian
Kate Meader

That's it.  Now I must notify my nominees.  For this task I will use a combination of Twitter, blog comments, and Facebook.  Thank you for reading.  Please stop by again for a peek at my WIP The DeFord Chronicles, Part II for Weekend Writing Warriors on Saturday and/or Sunday.

Tagged Again by the Lucky 7

First I'd like to thank Angela Quarles and Wendi Sotis for tagging me.  They are wonderful writers and wonderful friends.

Next I must state the rules...

Go to page 7 or 77 in your current manuscript
Go to line 7
Post the next 7 lines, or sentences, as they are – no cheating -- on your blog, website, or Facebook profile/page
Tag 7 other authors to do the same (and it's a good idea to let them know you've tagged them; it's less fun otherwise).

Since Bridging The Gaps isn't out yet, and I haven't worked on anything else in many moons, I'm giving you 7 lines from page 7.  The scene: 15 year old Melanie is studying with her best friend Rachel when Rachel asks how she feels about her parents getting divorced.  Melanie denies that a divorce is in the works and Rachel informs her that the whole town knows the Pritchards are splitting up, and everyone knows her Dad's got a girlfriend.  Melanie dismisses the whole thing.

          “It’ll pass.  It’s just a mid-life crisis.”
Rachel Bryant had been Melanie’s best friend since first grade.  There wasn’t anything they didn’t share with each other—until now.  Rachel reached her hand out to cover Melanie’s.  “It’s okay, Lanie.  You can tell me the truth.”
Annoyed, Melanie shook off her hand.  “I am.  There’s nothing to worry about.  He’ll come back.”

Poor kid.  She goes through a lot in this book.  Anyhow...

I hereby tag, for the Lucky 7 meme:

Jes Langan
Lorraine Paton
Erin Knightley
Patricia Ann Preston
Caitlin McColl
Carmen DeSousa

I've been tagged.  Having never been tagged before, I don't have a speech prepared...

I'm new to memes in general but this looks like serious fun, so I'm going to play.  The rules follow.

Once you are tagged:
*go to page 77 of your current WIP
*go to line 7
*copy down the next 7 lines/sentences as written and post them on your blog or website
*tag 7 other authors
*let them know they've been tagged

I'm taking this literally and copying a full 7 lines, even though it leaves most of a sentence hanging.  Chauncy has just arrived at his cousin Jacqueline's home in France and been shown to the rooms he will occupy during his visit.  He's also on a mission for his King, but no one else knows that.

"There was nothing else for him to do.  Other than Jacqueline, no one had deigned to welcome him to Chateau du Gloire.  He went to the double doors leading to his small balcony.  The air was sweet with bird song.  Sunlight warmed the land, sending up a subtle fragrance of grass and flowers.  Sheep grazed in the distance.  The landscape seemed a contrast to the formality of the chateau.  Looking out upon such a vista, one could hardly imagine secrets and manipulation to live in this place.  Chauncy allowed himself a few moments to breathe in the simplicity, the peace of it.  Soon enough he..."
The seven authors I'm tagging are mostly new friends who have been kind enough to comment on my posts for Six Sentence Sundays:

Jes Langan
Babette James
Kate Meader
Joya Fields
Teresa Cypher
Elaine Cantrell
Lorraine Paton

And thank you to Angela Quarles for tagging me.
