We're joining Ellen and Henry in chapter twenty. They've been watching a romantic movie together and as one thing leads to another, Ellen pulls back. Henry senses her confusion and tries to ease her mind, while making sure she knows how he feels.
"...You’re very special to me, and I’m not going anywhere. When you’re ready, I’ll be here.” He leaned over and kissed her so thoroughly she couldn’t have given her name if asked. He leaned his forehead against hers for the space of a few seconds. “Goodnight, Ellie May.”
It wasn’t until she heard his car pull out of the driveway that her pulse began to slow down to a normal level.
