Getting Nooky

For those of you who are shocked: get your mind out of the gutter and learn to spell!

Yes, it's true.  I have joined the legions of people who own eReaders.  I recently purchased a used Nook.  A first generation one, to be exact.  This does not mean that I have abandoned the printed word.  In fact I have yet to put any books on the Nook but I have turned it on and changed the wallpaper.

I've had the honor to win an eBook copy of Lord Midnight by Donna Cummings and that will be the first eBook I will read on my Nook.  I'm very much looking forward to reading it, as I've been following Donna's blog and she's both talented and funny.

Last night I attempted to upload the cover for Bridging The Gaps onto the Nook.  Today I can't find it.  Did I put it in the wrong folder?  Does it have to be attached to an eBook for me to see it?  So much for me to learn.  Technology and I are not the best of friends.  Anybody have any tips for me?

I shopped and shopped and picked out the Nook Simple Touch. I know its not the most expensive or flashy but it does EXACTLY what I want. I am in front of monitors and TVs all day and I have noticed a massive decline in my reading because at the end of the day my eyes are tired of the light. The E-Ink is great and the battery time of a month or more means I don't worry. I now devour books like I used to.
As a nook owner the best thing to happen beside the nook itself is Calibre. This is just a library management program. It is free and will convert to any format. It will also search out the metadata (the cover, table of comments and other data) for your books. You can add in plug-ins (built in just not active) to expand where it will look for the metadata. Half the books I have found come in Amazons MOBI format so with a simple highlight and click you have it in Epub. Also the ways it will list, organize and display the books you can find what you want nice and easy. Hope that helps and if you need any other resources just email me or find me on G+.

Thanks for the info Travis. I've downloaded Calibre and I've managed to load my first eBook. I'm so proud. :)

Kate, I'm honored that Lord Midnight is the first Nook book. :) I have a Nook Simple Touch, too, which I got as a gift about 6 months ago. I really do love it. I wasn't sure I would, but I like the convenience, especially after trying to read ebooks on my laptop. I also use Calibre, which is nice for converting some of the Amazon books I get (although it doesn't do the ones with DRM protection). I also use Calibre to put manuscripts -- mine, and the ones I beta read -- on Nook. It's great to see it on the screen that way!

Nooks don't seem to be as popular in Canada as Kobos and Kindles, so I can't offer any advice on that. But I will say that I've found my eReader to highly addictive. It is just *too* easy to buy and download books. ;) I've read more this year since getting my first eReader than I have in... well... forever. Have fun with it! :)

No, this is not a Wordpress blog. I use Weebly for this website and a blog is one of the features they offer. There is a link at the bottom of each page on the site that says "Create a free website with weebly" If you click on "free website" it will take you to the main Weebly site and you can find more information about what they offer.

The template was done by a designer, and made to work with the Weebly framework. You can find the designer through my Links page.

Good luck with your site! And thank you for visiting mine.
