Six Sentence Sunday  10/28/2012

10/27/2012

Here it is Sunday again.  How does that keep happening?  I'd like to thank everyone who drops by and everyone who comments.  Your words are like sunshine on a gray day.

Let's get right to our Six Sentence Sunday, shall we?  This week we're in Chapter Thirty Three.  Ellen, Doug and Stephanie have staged an intervention about DJ's drinking.  DJ has just left in a nasty temper after promising to see a couselor.

Ellen sat down and buried her head in her hands.  Doug stood and put a hand on her shoulder.  She looked up.  Their eyes met for a second.  Both were remembering the day he was born, his first bicycle, his little leauge games.
Other less pleasant recollections were there too: the night Doug had told her about the way his father had destroyed his mother's spirit with his constant verbal and physical abuse; his fears of turning into the same kind of man; the night his mother lay dying in the hospital, pleading with him to forgive his long-dead father, still loving the bastard after everything he'd done to her.

Not a happy six this week.  I hope to find some funny while I'm visiting my fellow Sixers today.  Come along with me, we can laugh together.

Kate

Very emotional six! It's obvious how much history they share, both good and bad.

I wish we didn't have to put our characters through such rough times . . . But they do have each other. Right?

"...still loving the bastard after everything he'd done to her." Brings to mind those old lyrics, "Only women bleed." Great snippet, Kate. So well-written.

It isn't a happy six. But it's realistic. And we can all find bits and pieces of ourselves, our lives and our families here. Or I can. So, to share that grief with a character and to know that, though it doesn't seem that way, it will get better--it's a worthy experience as a reader. Great snippet, Kate.

My heart just aches for them. It's good that they are facing their feelings though, brighter days are ahead of them. Fingers crossed. Fabulous 6.

This is so emotional. I couldn't still love or care for someone who broke my spirit. Really nice job because this snippet spurred emotions in me.

Good characters need the emotion. Good readers need it too. Thanks for your note on mine, it will be changed. And let me know about NaNo. Take good care Kate

Very emotional. I don't blame him for worrying that he'd take after his father.

Great six, Kate! So difficult to figure out how to handle and copy with situations like this. In the scene I *almost* felt for Doug. :)

This snippet isn't easy to read, emotionally speaking, but it does provide important insight into the characters. What a heartbreaking situation. Intense six this week Kate. Keep up the good work and I hope all is well with your family.

Nice six -- even when a relationship has soured, there are still those shared moments between characters, that tie them together. You showed this so well. :)
