Six Sentence Sundays 4/1/12

I want to thank everyone who visits and comments on Sundays.  You guys always make my day!  I am switching my focus back to my latest completed novel, so this week's Six Sentences are from it.  The title is Bridging The Gaps.

I give you the opening sentences.  The main character has been left by her husband and has finally worked up the energy to get angry.

     Crash.
Breaking glass punctuated angrily muttered statements as Ellen Pritchard pulled pictures from the walls and threw them in a black plastic garbage bag.  “Bastard.”  A family vacation photo was pulled from its perch.  “Twenty five years of my life.”  Down came a picture taken at a church fundraiser.

I hope you enjoyed them.  If you'd like to read more, the rest of Chapter 1 is on the site.  Just click on Excerpt above or in the menu to the left.  Please remember to visit the other talented authors who participate in Six Sentence Sundays.

How do you do it? So much information. I think that even without being told the scenario, I would have guessed. "Breaking" and then the mention of "family vacation" and "church fundraiser" all work in this snippet. The bastard has broken a perfect world... Wonderful, Kate :-)

Thanks, Teresa. I can't even answer the question of how I do it. Just trying to describe what I see playing in my head. Granted a few years of writing total crap helped me hone some skills. ;o)

Yes, love that juxtaposition between the family/church language and the bastard who has destroyed it. Great six!

Great opening, Kate! You have a situation that a lot of people can relate to. I like that your character is a strong woman who is getting angry and taking action.

This is a great six! So easy to feel her frustration and pain at the man who ruined their lives after so many years! Terrific job, Kate!

I love the contrast of the anger with the church fundraiser. The latter really highlights the former! Excellent six, Kate!

I love that she punctuated her verbal raging with the physical equivalent. It's realistic, especially when you consider the pictures she's actually throwing away. Excellent. And love your site layout, btw.
